Description
i-Octyl Maleic Acid POSS® is a molecular union of both functional chemistry and inorganic-organic compositions. HC1018.11 is a hybrid molecule with an inorganic silsesquioxane core and organic maleic acid groups for reactivity and i-Octyl groups for stability and compatibility.
APPLICATIONS
HC1018.11 is reactive with epoxy, isocyanate, anhydride, and imide chemistry. It provides enhanced hydrophobicity and unique affinity for surfaces. HC1018.11 is adhesive and stable under common use conditions.
In certain applications, the i-Octyl groups provide localized plasticization and wetting of the non-polar surfaces, along with inherent dispersion capability, also.
As with all POSS additives incorporated into formulation, surface glassification, such as plasma etching, etc. allows for MAR resistance and use a a bondable tie layer.
COMPATIBILITY
i-Octyl Maleic Acid POSS® is an easily handled tetramaleic acid appearing as a white to pale yellow powder. It is intended to be utilized as an additive. At additive concentrations, compatibility is expected with a wide range of resins and monomers that bear similar chemical functionalities. Compatibility testing is recommended for higher concentrations.
